Getting started

In this guide, we will take you every step of the way to get Studio One 4 up and running. That means we will walk you through the registration, installation, and activation processes. Follow the section below to get started.

Register a new product key

Registering Studio One 4 is as simple as entering your Product Key into the correct field in your PreSonus account. To register, you will first need to create a PreSonus account if you don’t already have one. Make sure to write down your email address and password. It’s also important to keep them in a safe place but if you forget, they can be reset here.

[2c] Studio One 4: Software Install Studio One 4 (PC). If you are not already logged into your PreSonus user account. Windows users will see a 64 bit bit installer, whereas MAC users will see a MAC OS X installer. Note: Studio One 4 is only compatible with 64-bit operating systems. There is no longer a 32-bit version.

Once you have a PreSonus account, open the Software Activation Instructions email from Sweetwater and locate the Product Key (e.g. BA55-9001-D5UM-F33L-V0XX-835N). If you purchased a boxed copy, the product key is inside the box. Once you have your product key, follow these steps to activate your new product.

If you are registering an upgrade, follow the instructions here.

  1. Log in to your PreSonus account, and click Register a Product.
  2. Select Software or Extensions from the drop-down menu, enter the requested information, and then click register.
  3. Enter the Product Key located in the e-mail you received from your Sweetwater Sales Engineer.

If you already have an existing version of Studio One 4, follow the steps below to upgrade it. Otherwise, continue to install your software.

Upgrade your existing version

TIP: You can also activate Studio One 4 Upgrades via the Studio One 4 Activation Menu (Studio One > Studio One 4 Activation…). Follow the on-screen instructions to select your current Product Key and enter your new upgrade Product Key. Once activated, your software will automatically upgrade and relaunch as the updated version. You will then be prompted to install any new value added content.

Existing versions of Studio One 4 can be upgraded through your PreSonus account. After locating and selecting the existing version, Studio One 4 can be upgraded using your Product Key included in the Sweetwater Software Activation Instructions email that was sent to you. Once you have activated the upgrade, continue to download and install Studio One 4.

  1. Log in to your PreSonus account, and locate the product you are upgrading.
  2. Select the product, click Upgrade, and enter the upgrade product key your received from your Sweetwater Sales Engineer.
  3. Click Upgrade.

Download & install the software

After locating Studio One 4 in your account’s product page, you will find the available download links including any sounds or additional content bundled with your purchase. Keep in mind that download times will vary depending on your service provider and connection speed. If you experience download or installation failure, try going one file at a time. Additional content can be downloaded at any time through your PreSonus account.

  1. Go to the My Products page of your PreSonus account.
  2. Locate Studio One 4 andselect the version of the app that is compatible with your system.
    • If you need to download a version for a different system, click Show All Systems.
  3. Open your Downloads folder, and launch the installer.
    • PC: Double-click the Studio One 4 installer and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
    • Mac: Double-click the Studio One 4 .DMG file, then click and drag the Studio One 4 app to the Applications folder shortcut.

The activation process is the last step to getting your new software up and running. When you launch Studio One 4, it will perform startup tasks like scanning plug-ins, detecting audio and MIDI hardware and checking for a valid license.

New Studio One 4 users will be prompted to log in to their PreSonus account. If you upgraded Studio One 4, you need to instead select the new Product Key from within the Studio One menu. Access the Studio One menu and choose Studio One Activation to select the Product Key tied to the version of Studio One you wish to use.

  1. Launch Studio One 4.
  2. Click the Studio One menu, then Studio One Activation…
  3. Select the Product Key of your newest version of Studio One 4.
    • If you get an error message while logging in or activating your upgrade, reset the PreSonus login credentials/keychain by following the steps on this helpful PreSonus page.
